Job Description:
As a Line Cook, you’ll prepare, portion, cook, and present various meal items—including a la carte and grill station offerings—while ensuring quality and working as part of a dynamic culinary team at the university campus. Efficiency and collaboration are key.
Pros: Entry-level accessible with clear hourly pay ($15/hr); opportunity to build culinary skills in a team environment; flexible, campus-based setting.
Cons: On-site only; may involve nonstandard hours; pay is modest.
I did a semester as a line cook with Sodexo at GSU; the lunch rush is hectic but manageable if you dial in your mise en place and memorize the top grill/fry items. Show up 15 minutes early with good non-slip shoes and label your pans - made my shifts way smoother. For $15, it’s decent if you want experience and steady hours.
At $15/hr I’d take it if the variable shifts don’t wreck sleep; campus lunch at CAU spikes hard then drops. I did Sodexo at another campus — pre-weigh proteins and memorize the top 5 grill items so you can bang out tickets without looking. Keep a deli cup of salt/pepper and a sharpie+tape on you and label everything before the rush hits.
