Why do they call it 'steaming' up the kitchen

I’ve always wondered why they call it ‘steaming’ the kitchen. Is it because half the time I feel like I’m running a sauna rather than a restaurant? Between the boiling pots and my chefs sweating bullets, maybe we should start charging for spa treatments on the side.
